GLAZE NOTES
Most of the glazes created in this studio combine gloss and matte glazes with brushing techniques for contrast and creative style.
Basics:
- Clay: Light sandy speckled clays
- Glazes: Matte Bronze (5 RIO, 10 Titanium)
- Firing: 1220 degrees (mid fire), natural cool
glaze technique
- Matte Bronze (10 Titanium / 5 RIO) base clay, internal and external full dip
- Layered with brush strokes of a white magnesium crackle glaze. Each layer creates a unique embellishment on the clay.
- Half dip of Blue Rutile (BR). Where it covers the magnesium brush strokes it creates a deeper blue over the iron base glaze and iron in the clay. An eclipse of the design alongside the symbolism of using the sun and the moon as motifs on the clay.
eclipse design
Brushing motifs and symbols onto layered glazes and the clay itself mirrors the creative and spiritual journey I am on, incorporating a strong connection to nature and a deeper connection to self.
INSPIRATION
Travel is a great inspiration. We recently spent time in Murroon and although not an eclipse event the moon, the stars and the sun shone brightly around the fire.
